The Norfolk Fire Department would like to ensure the community is familiar with the procedures for the burning of brush during the burning season. To initiate this process, residents must understand the Open Burning Regulations and must obtain a Permit. There is no cost for the Permit.
Permits are available on-line using CitizenServe or can be obtained in person at the fire station, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Telephone, email or FAX requests will not be accepted.
Once a Permit has been issued, residents shall not begin any burning without first contacting the Fire Department AFTER 10AM each day they wish to burn to ensure open burning is permitted (based upon weather conditions or other safety factors deemed appropriate by the Department of Environmental Protection [DEP], the Fire Chief or the shift Fire Officer.
Residents are required to call only 508-528-3207.
You will be directed to press “7”, OPEN BURNING where you will hear a recorded message that will indicate whether or not open burning is approved for that specific day.
If open burning is permitted, permission will be granted.
Open burning season begins on January 15, and continues to 4pm May 1, only under the following conditions:
